Assessment is an approach to teaching and learning that allows teachers to gather evidence about a pupil’s performance and give feedback to support them to move forwards. Teachers actively involve children in the learning process through regularly discussions and feedback. This gives children confidence in what they are expected to learn and to what standard.

Every term, teachers have 1:1 sessions with each child to discuss the progress they are making. As children get older they will become more familiar with these sessions and will lead the session, showcasing their progress to the teacher and reflecting on their next steps. By becoming more active in their learning and starting to ‘think like a teacher’, children will make greater achievements.

We use key performance indicators (KPIs) for each year group for reading, writing and maths to assess how well children are progressing towards the end of year expectations. Children are familiar with these and will discuss these with their teacher throughout the year. These will be used at parents evening to show where your child is currently achieving and their next steps.
